FAQ / Legal & data
Is scraping Google Maps legal?
Scraping publicly visible business listings (name, address, phone, category, rating) is generally legal in most jurisdictions, but it does go against Google's own Terms of Service, which is a real risk you should know about, not a technicality to ignore.
GeoLead's free tier scrapes Google Maps' public listing pages directly, which carries the ToS risk described above — it's why the free tier exists at no cost, with the tradeoff that Google can change its page markup or rate-limit scraping activity at any time. For a fully compliant, officially-supported alternative, GeoLead's paid tier uses the official Google Places API instead, which is ToS-safe and billed per request rather than free.
Separately, if you plan to use scraped contact details for marketing outreach, you're responsible for complying with data-protection and marketing-communication laws in your own jurisdiction (e.g. GDPR/PECR in the UK/EU, CAN-SPAM in the US) — GeoLead labels any best-effort personal contact data clearly so you always know what's verified core data versus unverified enrichment.
